A set of 3 rusty steel tulip sculptures - named for a Persian turban, once worth more than a house, now permanent in steel
The word tulip comes from the Persian dulband - turban - a nod to the flower's distinctive cupped shape. By the 17th century, tulip bulbs had become so prized in Holland that a single bulb could fetch more than the price of a house - one of history's most extraordinary episodes of collective obsession. These rusty steel sculptures capture the tulip at its most composed: three inner petals forming a central flute, slightly overlapping; three outer petals gently opened, as if responding to the warmth of the sun. A flower that once drove an economy to its knees, made permanent in steel.
Hand-shaped from solid 6mm steel bar for the stems and heavy-gauge 2mm steel plate for the petals, each sculpture arrives pre-rusted to a beautiful mottled patina and ready to display, standing tall enough to hold its own among your borders for years to come.
